The West Sound Warriors Junior Hockey Club is pleased to announce the hiring of Matt Ferris as head coach for the 2015-2016 NPHL season. Coach Ferris brings with him a considerable hockey background as both a coach and a player, making him an ideal leader for the team. His extensive experience and strong framework will be a valuable asset to the Warriors in both individual player development as well as reaching their full potential as a team. When asked about the opportunity, Coach Ferris said, “I am really excited to take the reigns of the Warriors. I played juniors in Bremerton and appreciate the Haselwood family giving me the opportunity to pass on my knowledge and love of the game to the next generation of players. I look forward to preparing players for their futures, on and off the ice.”
Coach Ferris started his junior hockey career in Bremerton, Washington with the Puget Sound Tomahawks. He was called up mid-season by the Winkler Flyers and was later traded to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines, both of which are members of the Manitoba Junior League. Later, he returned to Bremerton as a 19-year old. He went on to play for Utah State University while attending college full time. After graduating with a BA in public relations and journalism, he moved on to play pro for the Danville Dashers in the Federal Hockey League. He returned to the Bremerton West Sound Warriors as assistant coach for three consecutive seasons.
Former player Joe Glithero claims, “Hiring coach Ferris was a great move for the organization. Everyday he brings a passion to the team that evokes players to give their all both on and off the ice. He is a strong believer in building lasting relationships and friendships between the players and I think this will really benefit the Warriors as individuals as well as the overall future of the team.” Congratulations Coach Ferris, and go Warriors!
